Greensboro won Konnor Griffin's debut 8 - 2 bringing their record to an outstanding 38 - 19.
That record is good for third best in the in all of High A, and second best in the South Atlantic League behind the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Bucs High A team is looking stacked right now, especially offensively, so they may reach the division lead by the end of the first half.
Konnor Griffin had his debut yesterday, and did not disappoint. Griffin went 2 for 5 with one Run Scored and one RBI. Both of his hits were doubles. He also had a caught stealing at 3rd base. I don't expect he will have any trouble over the rest of his High A career stealing bases.
An important thing to keep an eye on with Konnor Griffin is his strikeout and whiff rates. He did not strike out or walk in his Grasshoppers debut, and he reduced his K rate significantly the weeks prior to his promotion. Hopefully we are seeing the contact develop here, and he will keep the progress going as he moves forward with his career.
So far in June Griffin has more walks than strikeouts which a huge improvement from where he started this year. He had a 31% K-rate in April, a 20% K-rate in May, and a 11% K-rate so far in June. You have to love that progression.
