Joey Bart and Oneil Cruz are a couple of the players out of Minor League Options for 2026. However, they are not fringe roster players and the options do not matter so much at this point in their careers.

However, there seem to be 5 position players who are out of options currently on the 40-man roster who are fringe 26-man players for next year.

Those players include: Liover Peguero, Enmanuel Valdez, Alexander Canario, Ryan Kreidler, and Jack Suwinski. Alexander Canario actually doesn't have any options for this year which explains why he continues to survive on the 26-man while not playing much. All of these players have at least shown some elite tools at some point except for Valdez. Peguero was a former fringe top 100 prospect and is probably the closest to 5-tool on this list. He just has not been able to put it all together. Canario has elite bat speed and great barrel rates, not quite at Cruz's level but has well over 90 percentile bat speed, but whiffs too much and doesn't square the ball up enough. The recently claimed Ryan Kreidler has elite defense and positional flexibility, but has not hit. Jack Suwinski has good barrel rates and chase rates even when he struggles, and hit 45 home runs in his first two seasons. Enmanuel Valdez hasn't played since May.

I may miss Peguero and Jack Suwinski if they get DFA'd because I like the person and would like to see them reach their potential, but I would not lose any sleep if any or all of these players get DFA'd. The Valdez signing did not make sense especially after they signed Adam Frazier this year. Canario seems to be able to produce at the major league level only if he has the perfect matchup. Suwinski has had back to back awful seasons. The Pirates have been out of contention since the beginning of the season and Peguero is still not getting regular playing time. Kreidler doesn't seem like he will ever hit in the MLB. The Pirates already have a glove-only shortstop in AAA in Alika Williams.
