The Reds recently tried to acquire Luis Robert Jr. but did not meet the Chicago White Sox's demands. It is reported that the White Sox wanted two top 5 prospects from the Reds in exchange.
The Reds have a strong farm system with 5 prospects in the MLB Pipeline Top 100. Those prospects include, RHP Chase Burns: No. 26 overall, RHP Rhett Lowder: No. 35, 3B Sal Stewart: No. 84, 3B Cam Collier: No. 91, and SS Edwin Arroyo: No. 92. Arroyo, specifically was leaked in the report. I think it likely Burns or Lowder was also included. It doesn't make sense for the Reds to include their top SPs because pitching is the team's biggest weakness while their infield is very strong.
What would an equivalent trade with the Pirates look like?
The Pirates have 4 prospects in MLB Pipelines Top 100. Those are RHP Bubba Chandler, SS/OF Konnor Griffin, RHP Thomas Harrington, and 2B/SS Termarr Johnson. The Pirates should not consider trading Bubba Chandler. He has higher upside than both of the Reds burns and Lowder and should be a No. 1 starter performer in the near future. Lowder is more of a high floor/low ceiling prospect middle of the rotation starter, and Burns is a high ceiling/high risk starter who has the ability to rack up serious K's but also rack up serious BBs. Konnor Griffin is so far away from contributing to the MLB club he should be the position player to go. The White Sox aren't expected to contend until Griffin is ready for the majors anyways. The Pirates have taken the long road developing Termarr and their Paul Skenes window is not big enough to be there when Konnor Griffin is ready especially if they take the long road developing Griffin as well. The White Sox would certainly want Thomas Harrington in the deal. I'm ok with including him if the Pirates think Luis Robert Jr. can find his 2023 form when he hit 38 home runs. Pirates already have 3 No. 2 starters or better not including Chandler. They also have former top 100 prospects Braxton Ashcraft and Mike Burrows knocking on the door.
If the White Sox require another prospect, it would probably be a low level prospect with higher potential. At this point in the Pirates Build/Rebuild I am ok trading those away. I could see Mitch Jebb or Zander Mueth being included, but it could be any low level prospect ranked around 10 - 15 in MLB Pipeline rankings.
